My first experience with Blood Donation

Image
Blood… Until very recently, I was not been educated about the essentialities of blood. I had a notion that blood which is donated is used only in cases of unusual blood loss. But that is not actually true, as blood is required critically in lot many other known and unknown circumstances like when improvement of basic body strength is required to withhold appropriate treatments, to undergo surgeries where complementing blood components is required, etc. My first experience of donating blood was too good. I was called to provide blood for a heart patient who was to undergo an open heart surgery. My blood group was fortunately O+, which makes me a universal donor. The surgery required a large amount of extra blood for various significant medical reasons. Hence, all those people with compatible blood groups were approached. Thanks to the high awareness among people about blood donation campaigns. There were a handful of volunteers among which I and my friend were the only freshers.
